LEAN for Micro: Small businesses learning to be more efficient

-

Through the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) serving North and West Cork, small business owners are being offered the chance to increase how efficiently they run their business. The LEAN for Micro Information Webinar takes place on March 11th at 11am, and is free to attend for all business owners and entrepreneurs.

Through the LEO, business owners can take part in a programme called LEAN for Micro. LEAN referring to ‘trimming the fat’, without losing the goodness. Micro is for micro-businesses - those with 10 employees or fewer. Making things lean may not always be about money - sometimes, it is material waste. Or it might be time - are employees walking between locations endlessly, cutting down on productivity?

On Friday, 11th March, LEO will be holding an online seminar to go through what’s involved with prospective participants. It assures that LEAN will ‘increase efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profit.’ Agility, too, is key. Over the past 24 months the word ‘pivot’ has been thrown around a lot. Pivoting is agility - it is learning how to make your business change with the times, and continue to stay relevant.

‘Put simply, LEAN Thinking is about taking what you do successfully in your business, then finding ways to do it faster, better, and together with your team.’

The Local Enterprise Office say that LEAN is about building a stable, secure and sustainable business that is agile enough to face economic challenges. For many, the programme has given them the ability to get home on time, work less at the weekends, while still getting the work done. Businesses focus on the elimination of waste from their processes, and by creating standards and implementing visual management. Business owners learn that what has taken them this far in the business, may not take them where they want to go - and will learn what to do to take them in the direction they do want to go.

PRE-REGISTER

The free seminar will take place at 11am on Friday, 11th March. Although free to attend, participants are asked to pre-register for the ‘LEAN for Micro Information Webinar’ at localenterprise. ie/corknorthandwest. Business owners will learn how to get started, and hear from other entrepreneurs who have been through the LEAN journey, who will relate how it worked for them.

The seminar on LEAN brings to a close Local Enterprise Week, which takes place from March 7th-11th. LEO has a whole schedule of different online seminars and webinars for small and medium business owners, many free of charge. More information can be found at localenterprise.ie/corknorthandwest
