Strong trading at Corrin Mart
After a rough number of days weather wise, it was hard to know what numbers would be offered for sale this week in Corrin Mart. Luckily large numbers of dry cows, bullocks and heifers showed up.
I say luckily, because the trade is so strong at the moment and we have such a variety of customers from all over the country that we need large numbers in order to satisfy the demand that we are enjoying at the moment. This demand should easily be maintained over the next number of weeks when we see very large numbers in Corrin every Tuesday.
COWS
The demand for dry cows was extremely lively, a large number of buyers bid vigorously for all cows that were offered for sale.
Store cows: 400kgs to 550kgs making from €1.30 per kilo to €1.95 per kilo.
Heavier cows: 550kgs+ making from €1.65 per kilo up to €2.27 per kilo.
Limousin 1,095kg €2,480; Friesians 695kg €1,380; Friesians 625kg €1,160.
BULLOCKS
Another very strong trade for bullocks, super demand for all weights and breeds.
Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.65 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €2.90 for Continental bullocks. With AA/Hereford types making from €2.30 per kilo up to €2.87 per kilo.
Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs starting at €1.65 for Friesians up to €2.80 per kilo for Continentals. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.30 up to €2.70 per kilo.
Fwd. stores: 500kgs to 600kgs. The plainer Friesians started at €1.90 per kilo up to €2.68 per kilo.
Heavy bullocks: 600kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.05 up to €2.56 per kilo.
Limousin 347kgs €910; AA 280kgs €800; AA 497kgs €1,340; Hereford 545kgs €1,380.
HEIFERS
Quite possibly, as strong a demand as we have seen for many years for heifers this week.
Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €2.28 up to €2.80per kilo. AA/Hereford averaged at €2.35 per kilo.
Butchers heifers: 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.30 up to €2.82 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging at €2.38per kilo.
Limousin 470kgs €1,320; AU 200kgs €560; AA 500kgs €1,330; AA 400kgs €1,050.
CALVES
The calf sales in Corrin will now take place on Wednesdays. Even with the larger numbers of calves offered each week the trade is still very lively for all calves.
