Fighting against crime on the elderly
Dear Editor,
I, like so many people in this country, are conscious of the increasing level of violent crime committed against elderly people in their own homes. As a member of Neighbourhood Watch, I confirm that down through the years local Neighbourhood Watch groups, particularly in rural areas, have with the provision of technology and local intelligence, been of great assistance to the Garda in the fight against crime.
With this proven track record, I would suggest to the relevant government departments that additional resources be made available to enable local Neighbourhood Watch groups up and down the country to realise their potential, while intensifying their efforts in the fight in their own local communities to eliminate crime.
Yours sincerely, Tadhg O’Donovan, Commissioner For Oaths, Fermoy.
