Club hold juvenile AGM

-

The Juvenile section of Castletownroche GAA Club had their AGM on Saturday last, February 19th. The meeting was held in the Community Centre in Castletownroche. The attendance was comparatively small to previous AGMs. Chairperson Russell O’Brien opened the meeting and welcomed everybody to the AGM. He thanked everybody who helped out in any way they could with the club over the course of the year - players, mentors, coaches, supporters parents and all volunteers.

Secretary Catherine Nash gave a detailed rundown of the club activities, both on and off the pitch over the course of 2021. This included Castletownroche Under 7s, 9s and 11s, Ballycastle Gaels Under 12s, 13s, 15s, 17s and 18s and Ballycastle Gaels LGFA teams at Under 8s, 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s level. Treasurer Con Guiney outlined the clubs financial position, with the clubs income sources derived from membership, the Annual Poc Fada and the church gate collection.

Adult Club chairperson Tom Barrett presided over the election of officers. Outgoing vice chairperson advised the meeting he would not be putting his name forward for the coming year. Tom thanked Brian for all of his contributions over his two year term and it was noted that Brian continues to be very active in the club, training our Under 11s.

The meeting returned the following officers for the 2022 season - chairperson: Russell O’Brien; secretary: Catherine Nash; treasurer: Con Guiney. The vice chairperson position will be filled in the coming weeks.

Children’s Liaison officer Liz O’Leary then addressed the meeting, outlining once more the various policies that are in place in the club to protect our members. Both Liz and the Deputy Liaison Officer, Tommy O’Leary, do a great job to ensure all coaches and parents who are involved in helping with the teams in any way are Garda vetted and have completed the necessary Child Protection courses.

A Club Registration night for the 2022 season will take place on Friday, March 4th in the Community Centre between 7 and 8 pm. It is vital that all players are registered by that evening for 2022 activities. Each family will be issued with all of the relevant policies by e-mail once they complete the registration form.

The meeting was adjourned then by chairperson Russell O’Brien and the club looks forward to a fruitful 2022 season.

REBELS’ BOUNTY 2022

Enrolment for the 2022 Rebels’ Bounty Draw is now closed. We had a great response and have maintained similar numbers to last year. This is a great boost to the clubs coffers and is one of our main fundraising initiatives for the year. The first two draws take place on Thursday night, February 24th. The draw is usually streamed live on the Cork GAA website and we will post updates on the winners in the notes throughout the year. A huge thanks to everybody who helped to sell these tickets and to those who bought the tickets. We wish all the entrants the best of luck and it would be lovely to see some winners from Castletownroche this year.

EVERY STEP COUNTS CHALLENGE 2022

The Irish Life sponsored “Every Steps Counts” Challenge concluded on Wednesday, February 23rd. There was a great response from the public to the challenge and we logged over 6,000km, which had us well in excess of the 4,000km target and in the running for the spot prizes, which will be drawn in the coming weeks. Thanks to everybody who took part in this. Although the challenge is now over, the public lighting remains on over at the GAA pitch every night of the week from 6 to 8pm for those wishing to use the GAA facilities for exercise.

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Ballycastle Gaels Under 21 footballers, who defeated Liscarroll Churchtown Gaels on Saturday last in Ballyhooly on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-09. A full rundown of the game can be found in the Ballycastle Gaels notes. They have now qualified for the North Cork final, where they will face St Dominics. This game is currently scheduled for Friday night next, February 25th, with an 8pm throw in. No venue has been appointed yet and this timing may be subject to change. Best of luck to the players and hopefully we will see the first piece of silverware returned to the parish for the year.
