INDIE22 - Local price reduction on tickets on sale Saturday

- MARIAN ROCHE

There is some extremely exciting news for music fans in Mitchelstown, as INDIE festival director Shane Dunne has promised a ‘small reduction’ in price for locals on tickets. Speaking with The Avondhu, Mr Dunne confirmed that this Saturday, a pop up shop in Walsh’s Bar will be selling tickets all morning.

The pop up shop is open from 10.30am-12.30pm in the beer garden, deferred from the usual date in October. The much anticipated festival is taking place from July 29th-31st.

“We’re delighted to be back; it’s been way too long since we got to see live music in a field with our friends. The line up is eclectic and one of the strongest we’ve had with a heavy focus on brilliant Irish talent. We’ve got more to add to the bill, while we are also working on making the site the best we’ve had.”

LINE-UP CONTINUES TO GROW

The official launch of Indiependence 2022 took place in the Hard Rock Hotel in Dublin last Thursday, where Irish DJ Jenny Greene of 2FM was announced as the main headliner for the new 2,000 capacity outdoor Dance Arena. She will be joined by Kellyanne Byrne, Tracy Clifford, Stevie G and Dec Pierce’s Block Rockin’ Beats over the weekend, alongside new additions like Declan McKenna and 49th & Main.

Headliners Rudimental Live, Bastille, Fatboy Slim and The Academic were confirmed last year, and now we know that the festival is going to be a feast of Irish artists too, with The Scratch, Lyra, Pa Sheehy, Le Boom, Erica Cody, and Wild Youth taking to the lowlands beneath the Galtees.

International acts like Becky Hill and Iceland’s Dadi Freyr will make their INDIE debuts this year too

SUPPORTING LOCAL

At the launch, organisers also revealed their partnership with Mitchelstown and Ballygiblin GAA where over the past 12 months, the lads from Mitchelstown Ballygiblin Juvenile GAA have undertaken a programme of GAA training to about 500 boys and girls in the area.

A spokesperson for the club gave some details, saying the focus is on “improved general movement and the introduction of the basic skills of our national games. The kids, teachers, parents, and the community as a whole have been massively supportive of this programme, and it could not have been done without the generous contributions of our sponsors Indiependence Music Festival.”

The fruitful €10,000 sponsorship of local football and hurling will help coach hundreds of local boys and girls over a fouryear period.

INDIE director, Kieran Walsh, said the festival was delighted to feed back into the local community.

“INDIE has given to local charities every year since it began. The festival is owned by local people, run by local people, and all five directors played with local clubs in Mitchelstown - everything is local based.

“When we heard the GAA in Mitchelstown was looking for coaches we decided we wzanted to help contribute alongside other local businesses to the local training fund. As it happens, around this time, Mitchelstown native Mark Keane moved home from Australia and it all fell into place. Mark played for Collingwood for three years and is currently on the Cork Senior hurling panel. Mark now coaches in the local schools a few hours a day, five days a week.”

Day tickets for the festival will go on sale from Saturday at 10am from Ticketmaster. Demand is sure to be high.
