Coolagown improvement works well underway
Works in Coolagown have gotten underway, which will see the implementation of a new traffic calming project for the village.
Proposed works in the area consists of new footpaths, junction tightening, new public lighting layouts, two new speed tables, new lane definitions and defined crossing points, new build-outs, raised planting areas, tree planting, two new age-friendly parking spaces, two new disabled parking spaces, along with road resurfacing.
Updating council members at the recent Fermoy Municipal District meeting, Senior Engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman, stated that public lighting has been completed in the village.
“It’s set out now on the ground so people can see exactly where the new markings are, where the new footpaths are going in and the Community Development Association are very happy with what’s being proposed here,” Mr O’Gorman said. STEADY PROGRESS
Linehan Civil Engineering Ltd, from Blarney, were making steady work on the footpaths last Friday when The Avondhu visited the village, having only commenced works earlier in the week. They anticipate another 2 weeks before the footpaths will be fully complete.
Goals for the plan were to see traffic calming measures introduced and the removal of haphazard parking in the area during Mass times. The project stemmed from works that the community in Coolagown had carried out themselves.
The proposed works went through a public consultation and planning process last year.
