- MARIAN ROCHE

A new research grant bursary for local history is now available to encourage and support new local research and local history studies. The research fund, intended for the Decade of Centenaries, was announced on Friday by Minister Catherine Martin.

The fund is available for local research and local history studies, in order to meaningfully examine local, regional and national events during the struggle for independence and the Civil War period. It is anticipated that eight bursaries will be awarded to researchers each year in both 2022 and 2023, to encourage new local history studies, furthering fields of research relating to the fight for independence and the Civil War period within their communities. The grants will be between €1,000 and €10,000.

Suggested themes include the exploration of local personalities, the contribution and experiences of women during this period, and the exploration of a changing society during this period.

Applications for the 2022 scheme are open now, and the closing date is 27th April. Run in partnership with the Royal Irish Academy, more information and the application form can be found at ria.ie.
