DEATH ON THE NILE

- BY JIM LYSAGHT

While on vacation on the Nile, Hercule Poirot must investigate the murder of a young heiress. This lavish, handsomely put together murder mystery has finally arrived! As a fan of the original motion picture, this one is just as good. The set is exhilarating and the story just as suspenseful. Branagh’s performance as Poirot continues to be excellent.

The film is as theatrically staged as the climax and leaves you enthralled almost all the way through. Branagh opens himself up emotionally with titanic fury, giving his version of Poirot as a fiery, almost vindictive.

Sophie Okonedo is superbely beautiful. Russell Brand has a couple of memorable moments as do Letitia Wright and Emma Mackey. Tom Bateman steals a multitude of scenes bringing the same laid back energy he brought to Murder on the Orient Express.

The best of all is the pair of Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French they doing a great job of making the most of every second of their screen time.

In cinemas now, director Kenneth Branagh.
