A very lively week at Corrin mart this week! Numbers are continuing to increase and demand is certainly hotting up with an extremely lively trade for all cattle this week.

Our first sale in March saw a very large entry of dry cows, bullocks and heifers. The strong prices from last week were easily maintained and increased again in many cases with countrywid­e customers both in the ring and online bidding strongly for all weights and breeds.

COWS

Another super trade for dry cows this week.

Store cows: 400 to 550kgs making from €1.35 per kilo to €1.85 per kilo.

Heavier cows: 550kgs+ making from €1.68per kilo up to €2.32 per kilo.

BB 830kg €1,920; Friesians 700kg €1,360; Friesians 645kg €1,220.

BULLOCKS

Much larger numbers, increase in buyers for stores, extraordin­ary trade for heavy bullocks.

Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.67 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €2.85 for Continenta­l bullocks. With AA/ Hereford types making from €2.30 per kilo up to €2.72 per kilo.

Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs starting at €1.65 for Friesians up to €2.80 per kilo for Continenta­ls. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.28 up to €2.60 per kilo.

Fwd. stores: 500 to 600kgs. The plainer Friesians started at €1.90 per kilo up to €2.72 per kilo.

Heavy bullocks: 600kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.05 up to €2.71 per kilo.

Charolais 340kgs €960; AA 300kgs €810; AA 645kgs €1,740; Simmental 470kgs €1,290.

HEIFERS

Larger numbers saw the same trade as last week’s excellent trade.

Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €2.28 up to €2.82per kilo. AA/ Hereford averaged at €2.36 per kilo.

Butchers heifers 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.30 up to €2.75 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging

at €2.37per kilo.

Charolais 295 kgs €830; Limousin 500kgs €1,340; AA 520kgs €1,380; AA 480kgs €1,240.

CALVES

The calf sales in Corrin Mart now take place on Wednesdays. There are very large numbers each Wednesday but trade remains very strong for all calves. Shipping calf trade is much stronger than the last few years and there is a very lively trade for stronger Friesians and all coloured calves.
