The Avondhu

A new season is upon us

-

This weekend sees the start of the League campaign for our junior and intermediate footballers. It is great to see the boys up and running again. There will be of ups and downs throughout the year I have no doubt but hopefully there will be plenty of silverware. I would like to wish the best of luck to all involved. The intermediates are travelling to Bantry to do battle with the home side at 4pm on Saturday.

A tough one to start but one I am sure our boys are well capable of rising to the challenge. On Sunday at 12 our junior footballers are in action in Shanballymore. I’m sure as always is against Shanballymore a good honest game of football.

CORK

Some very contrasting fortunes for the Cork teams in their respective league campaigns which I think is interesting. The hurlers’ All-Ireland final hurt seems to be driving them this year. Some very strong performances so far and the team will be very happy with the way things are going so far. One thing is for sure - they will be hard to beat in the summer. The footballers’ struggles seem to go on week to week. Last weekend’s scoring of 2-17 is positive and hopefully this will translate to a win the next day out against Meath. Look, this team isn’t going to be fixed short term but I do think they need to stay in the top two divisions in the league to be competitive down the line, so the next few weeks will be very important.

FIXTURES

Division 2 FL Group A Saturday 5th 4pm in Bantry vs Bantry Blues. Division 2 Avondhu FL Sunday 6th 12 noon vs Shanballymore in Shanballymore.
