A clean sweep of wins in Winter League!

-

Last weekend, we had four teams in action in the Munster Winter League Phase II. On Saturday, the ladies grade 6 (rock) team played their first game of the competition in Mitchelstown against Kilfeacle Kickers. The team put in a great performance and earned a 3-1 victory. On Sunday morning, the ladies grade 6 (paper) team played their second group game at home against Nenagh. Thankfully, the weather conditions were good for the day.

The ladies got off to a slow start, but showed great character to turn things around to win the first 2 matches. The confidence was high and with positive momentum going into the second two matches, the home side won both of them to seal an impressive 4-0 win. Our grade 2 men’s team were playing their second match of the competition away in Douglas. Having won the first group game at home against Lakewood, the men carried on from that win with a fine 4-0 away success. The men have now two wins from two in the group with one game to play, this puts them in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages. The ladies grade 4 team were playing their second match of the winter league at home against Tralee. Our team possess quality, experience and confidence and delivered a strong message to all grade 4 ladies teams that Mitchelstown are looking to go all the way with a 4-0 whitewash over the team from Kerry. That’s two wins for the ladies with one game to play; this team are playing some fine tennis.

WINTER LEAGUE FIXTURES

This weekend, we have two teams in action. On Saturday 5th, the ladies grade 6 (paper) team play their final group game away in Limerick Lawn at 4pm. For some members of this team, it’s their first time playing for Mitchelstown in an inter club competition, so we wish captain Laura and her team mates well in their quest for qualification from the group.
