Big win for minor hurlers

-

Ballygiblin minor hurlers started off their 2022 league campaign last Saturday against Diarmuid Ó Mhurchú. The match was due to be played in Ballygiblin but as the pitch was unplayable it was moved to Crosshaven. Ballygiblin put in a great performance from the very start and dominated throughout the field. Ballygiblin proved too strong for the opposition and ran out comfortable winners. Next up is away to Mayfield.

MITCHELSTOWN BALLYGIBLIN JUVENILE GAA CLUB PROFILE

The club caters for 11 football teams and 10 hurling teams for boys aged from 5 -17. There are well in excess of 250 players and 80 coaches. The coaches are all Garda vetted, have completed the Safe Guarding and GAA’s Foundation courses for coaches. Many coaches have completed additional GAA coaching courses.

The players are central to everything we do as a club and their development and welfare is our main driving force. The emphasis is on inclusion of all underage players, creating the atmosphere to allow them to develop as players, at their own pace in a supportive, fun and friendly environment. Coaching is provided on an individual and team basis in a positive way to provide skills and confidence for the games and life itself. They learn to win, lose, share and being part of a team. They meet their friends, make new ones, and have memories to cherish for a lifetime.

While we had some outstanding players over recent years e.g., Mark Keane, Darragh Flynn, Cathail O’Mahony and Aaron O’Brien to name a few, the participation and development of players of all standards and abilities is nonetheless key for the club. The juveniles later transition to the adult clubs, Mitchelstown for football and Ballygiblin for hurling to further develop and continue their playing careers.

The club is on a high with Ballygiblin’s success on reaching the All Ireland Junior Hurling final recently and there is pent up demand from players and coaches to get back on the playing fields!

Mitchelstown footballers reached two county finals in 2021 so great expectations in 2022 also!

The club is continuing with a very successful coaching programme for underage children in local national schools. It was recently extended to older primary school children. Current coaches are Gabriel Tully and our own Mark Keane who has caused great excitement.

Our club shop opened last week. It can be seen on idsportsshop. com and search Mitchelstown Ballygiblin juvenile club.

We look forward to welcoming all our players back and new players are very welcome also.
