Drive-in deferred until Sunday, March 13
Due to the extremes of weather we have experienced over the last fortnight the decision was made to defer the Drive-in until Sunday, March 13. While president John and captains Siobhan, Gerry and Ben would have loved if it had been able to go ahead last Sunday as planned, the unpredictable forecast for the afternoon of Sunday, February 6 left them with no option but to reschedule. All plans for the new date remain the same, a fun mixed will take place at 1.30pm followed by the Drive-in at 4pm. Once the formalities have taken place refreshments will be served in the clubhouse. Hopefully, March will bring us much better weather and a great day will be had by all.
LADIES WEEKLY COMPETITIONS
Due to the back-to-back storms which hit our county with a vengeance coupled with the amount of rain we had for the last fortnight in February we did not have a competition on Sunday/Monday 20th/21st February due to the closure of the course. On Friday 25th messages were sent to all members via the BRS and also on our ladies club WhatsApp group advising that that the course would re-open for play on Saturday leaving us very hopeful that the ladies club competition would go ahead. Luckily it did, the rain forecast for Sunday evening did not have a detrimental effect on another competition and our Spring League. The results will be published later.
UPCOMING COMPETITIONS
The weekly ladies competition will remain at fifteen holes for the moment. Hopefully now that we are in the month of March there will be a marked improvement in the weather and we won’t have further course closures. As our Government have very kindly given us an extra public holiday this year on Friday, March 18 following St Patrick’s Day, you may have some enthusiastic golfers visiting who might be interested in playing with you in one or both of the following competitions: St Patrick’s Day Two Ball Better Ball (any combination), Friday 18th Three Ball Scramble (any combination).
MEN’S WEEKLY COMPETITIONS
Following the disruption caused by the weather over the previous two weekends it was great to get back to our weekly competition and the Mikes Tyres Spring League last Saturday and Sunday, although the course did not open on Friday. Conditions encountered by the substantial number that played over the weekend varied from windy to calm with those of us who turned out on Saturday being met with very strong winds and occasional heavy showers. While Sunday dawned calm and sunny, as the day went on the wind returned but thankfully the rain stayed away. Results for the weekend will be published in due course .
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
The three major competitions are always hotly contested so when planning any holidays or mini breaks it’s good to have the dates recorded in your diary so you won’t be disappointed nearer the date. It might not be any harm to advise your non golfing “better half” of the dates either in case they are planning a family holiday or a romantic “getaway” which might interfere with your chance of winning a much coveted “Major Winner” accolade. Captain Gerry Stanton’s Prize 4th/5th June (Bank Holiday Weekend), Lady Captain’s Prize Sunday, 24th July, President John O’Sullivan’s Prize 20th/21st August.
TABLE QUIZ
We are holding a quiz night on Friday, March 18 at 8pm, teams of four and €20 per team. Former President and Captain John Morrison will take on the role of quizmasters and a fun night is assured.
MUSIC NIGHT
Fermoy GC is hosting a music night in the clubhouse with John Stoker on Saturday, March 19. Numbers will be limited and visitors are welcome, there is a cover charge of €5 for members and €10 for visitors. Tickets can be pre-booked by contacting the club. Telephone 025-31472 Ext 20 for office, ext 23 for bar or by email info@fermoygolfclub.com.
TAKING CARE OF OUR COURSE
Due to the amount of rain we have had in recent weeks we are all asked to keep electric caddy cars away from the greens and aprons of greens, to use pathways and to stay outside roped areas to minimise damage to the course.
