PRIM-ED U15 LEAGUE

Yes at last Brideview Utd’s U15 team clinched a win in their final league game against neighbours and other title chasers Ballyduff, in Leonard Fraser Park on a cold and windy afternoon in Tallow.

Prior to this game our U12 team recorded a big victory over Ballybridge Utd in their league game and keeps them in the hunt for a league title. However, this is a very tight league and anyone of six clubs could win the title.

PRIM-ED U15 LEAGUE RESULT Brideview Utd 3 Ballyduff Rovers 0

So Utd are finally champions. The scoreline here does not do justice to the visitors and with the loss of two players on that morning due to Covid. However, it did not stop Rovers from giving Utd a tough game before they finally clinched the league title.

Utd started well and Power set up Nugent after just 4 minutes, but the latter shot over. Wall broke through Rovers’ defence in the 10th minute but his effort went just wide. However, the opening goal came five minutes later when Nugent chipped the advancing keeper.

Utd were now on top and Wall set up Nugent in the 26th minute and the latter shot home for his second and Utds second. At the break Utd led 2-0. The visitors put pressure on Utd early in the second half. Aidan Murphy saved Utd when he headed off the line in the 28th minute., Utds keeper Good denied Burke of Rovers with a fine save in the 46th minute.

McDonnell rescued Utd in the 60th min when he cleared well. With time running out Hynes scored a vital third goal for Utd. This came in the 68th minute and Utd held out for the final few minutes and so clinched the league title.

PRESENTATION

Chairman of the schoolboy/girl league Brian Donnelly presented the Shield to the winning captain, Joseph McDonnell who was not stuck for words in thanking everyone. Manager Shane Ahern presented each of the players with their medal. Head coach Steven O’Keeffe was in full voice thanking all the players for their efforts. Other coaches Brian Donnelly and Olive Good were also happy with the result and commented on the good football the boys played. Chairman of the junior club Michael Curley was full of praise for the squad and again the good football they played throughout the game.

Brideview’s squad - Alex Good, Dean Cronin, Ben Sheehan, Billy Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Jack Henley, Joseph McDonnell (capt), Gearoid Hynes, Danny Power, David Wall, Roy Nugent, Cian Murphy, Adam Pratt, Leon Murphy, Nathan Mason and Isaac Almeida.

PRIM - ED U12 RESULT Brideview Utd 10 Ballybridge Utd 1

Our younger squad of boys and girls had a big win on Saturday morning last against a Ballybridge side who were again hit by Covid. In fairness they travelled to Tallow and played their game.

Paul Hegarty, Darragh O’Donovan and Harry Power got two goals each while other goals were secured by James McDonnell, Oscar Cunningham, David Murphy and Jack Dee. Utd played with the wind in the first half and led 5-0 at the break.

Utd added a sixth goal early in the second half before Ballybridge scored their first goal. To the fair their keeper Ben O’Callaghan made some very good saves. Utd finished the stronger and added four more goals to clinch all three points.

Utd all played - Jack Dee, James McDonnell, Josh Mangan, AJ Goulding, Barra Alien, Paul Hegarty, Oscar Cunningham, Darragh Donovan, Harry Power, Sophie McCarthy and David Murphy.

SYMPATHY

The club extends its deepest sympathy to the Tobin family, Currareigh on the sad passing of Thomas (Tommy). May he rest in peace.

THE THREE AMIGOS

This week we send birthday greetings to three young (haha! not so young) boys who celebrate their birthdays. All three, two of which still serve on Utd’s committee while the third is now big into Lismore Golf Club. Right Michael Delaney, Dominic Power and William Curley, we hope all you boys enjoy the birthdays.
