Remembering Catherine
On Thursday last we came together as a club to remember our dear running friend Catherine Hogan, on her second anniversary. A choice of 3 running and walking distances departed Roc on Tarabh car park last Thursday night at 7pm after a candle lighting ceremony. A bucket collection raised at time of going to press €270.50 which will be donated to Circle of Friends Tipperary.
NATIONAL SENIORS
There was a stellar weekend of athletics action had at the 2022 Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships last weekend at The Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena, where over 500 athletes were welcomed and battled it out for national titles. Out in the purple and white of Mooreabbey was Larry O’Grady taking part in the weight for distance throwing an impressive distance of 5.27 with a 56Ib weight and finishing 5th overall.
ADARE 10K
The prestigious All Real Adare 10k entered its 28th year of running was held last Sunday last at 1pm. It offered a fabulous route around the beautiful setting of Adare village and the surrounding countryside.
Traditionally one the largest athletic events in Limerick, it made a welcome return for the first time since 2020. A strong breeze, on a challenging course made it a testing run for club lady Pádraigín Riggs who claimed a category win.
DONERAILE PARK TRAIL 5K
Ann Cummins was out last Sunday morning in Doneraile Park at the 5km Trail Race organised by North Cork AC as a fundraising initiative for the fundraising charity “Let’s Get Sights For Ellie”.
Ellie Cusack is an 11 year old girl with failing sight and it’s her families ambition to get her to see as many sights around the world before her sight fails.
BALLYHOURA BIKING BLITZ
The 12th edition of the Biking Blitz Series round 2 was held at the Ballyhoura bike trail last Sunday. The Biking Blitz is a mass start cross country mountain bike event, aimed primarily at beginners. Liam O’Donnell put the legs to the pedals for this event a 17km cycle through the trails and cross country of the Ballyhouras.
CLUB EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2022
The Michael Curley Cunningham 4 mile (13th May). The Mooreabbey 10 mile (10th July). The mile dash (31st December). World Masters Mountain Race Clonmel 2022. Registration is now open online at wmmrch2022.ie.
All eyes and ears look and listen up because I think you won’t want to miss or pass up an opportunity of a life time to represent your country in an amazing event to be held in our back yard per say. As many of you will know by now Ireland were successful in the bid to host the World Masters Mountain Race this coming September. There will be a great opportunity for all to take the course on a test drive on June 19th to be known as the Great Irish Run before committing and signing up for the big event itself on September 3rd. To participate in the event there are no qualifications and the only restriction lies is that you must be over the age of 35 and under 80 be familiar with mountain running, competitive over 10k and very fit.
So if you’re willing to back yourself we are ready to back you and we would only love to see a flood of green jerseys on the trail.
ADULT TRAINING
Adult training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the community field Galbally from 7pm to 8pm. Newbies are always welcome, so should you have an interest in joining us at our training sessions please message us online, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. and we will point your running shoes in the right direction.
