Galbally swinging with Kims People
Standing in Galbally village on a Tuesday afternoon in March, one would be forgiven for thinking that Indiependence festival had come to town, just a few months early. However, the ruckus coming from Canon Hennessy Community Centre is provided by the retired communities of Galbally and Hospital coming together regularly once again, to while away the afternoon with music, dancing, chats and lunch
Coordinated by Martha Potter of the Family Resource Centre in Hospital, attendees setdanced to Kims People before a light lunch. As they say, behind every banquet is someone peeling the spuds, and in this case it was a kitchen staffed with volunteers buttering piles of scones and brewing pots of tea.
Volunteers including Noreen O’Brien of Galbally and Maureen Browne from Ballylanders doled out the ‘loaves and fishes’ as people gathered and told TheAvondhu how glad they were to be back. Lunch was then followed by a talk on personal safety alarms for personal use.
The meeting this week was the second time the group had met up since restrictions lifted, with the Hospital residents getting a bus to the centre. The group organises an event every month, and in May a mini-break in Portlaoise is planned.
