GLAS OR GORM?

The official heraldic colour of Ireland is blue, azure blue, to be exact, sometimes mislabelled as ‘St Patrick’s Blue’. No parade will be blue next week though, will it? It is a fact that the official colour is blue. It is a truth, however, that it is green. Because a fact is a fact, and a truth is a fact with a belief.

We live in an age of disinformation. We are advised to cross-check our news, and it is nigh impossible to know anymore if what we are hearing is true, or the whole truth, or just part of the truth, or was planted. We don’t know if we’re brainwashed, or actually a brain in a jar in a lab.

Videos circulated this week of Ukrainian men allegedly being killed by Russians on an island. It was later revealed to be false - the men are still alive. But that the video was false does not mean that it is not true that an atrocity was committed.
