Sense of normality returning at last

-

The Men’s Club got back to some sense of normality in Feb when we resumed activities after the recent lockdown. We did manage to hold two monthly meetings in Oct and Nov prior to the omicron variant emerging but shut down then for Dec and Jan.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Our guest speaker last month was Síle Hunt who gave an interesting account of her thesis on the Ballroom Act of 1932. Her presentation was well received by the fine attendance of 58 members. Next Mon then (Mar 14th) we have Mary Cleary talking to us on her experiences in Palestine which should be of great interest.

CONDOLENCES

Sadly, we lost two long-standing clubmen since our last meeting on Feb 14th with the passing of both Michael Leonard and Neilius O’Neill. Michael was club treasurer in 2017, utilising his banking experience to great effect and so the club’s accounts were in very safe hands that year. Neilius was a sitting member of the committee and had been for the past four years until his untimely passing. He was part of the ‘meet and greet’ team at our meetings and established a good working relationship with William Lonergan ensuring the smooth collection of data as members arrived. Both Michael and Neilius will be sadly missed. May they rest in peace.

NEW MEMBERS

Now is as good a time as any to join the club with annual membership set at €40 for the year ahead. Besides monthly meetings, we offer a range of other activities which are quite varied, so there is something for all tastes.

We hold our meetings in the Anderson Room of the Youth Centre at 3pm every second Mon of the month, with our next meeting this Mon, March 14th.
