Finbarr Murphy prepares for fundraising triathlon for the search unit

-

With over 30 years diving experience Finbarr Murphy is one of the most experienced divers in the club and the search unit and over that period Finbarr has got qualified to the highest sports diver instructor grade that’s possible called CMAS Monteur 3 (a grade that less than 100 divers have achieved in Ireland over the past 50 years).

Finbarr recently decided to take on a new challenge and to do his first triathlon and while doing so to fundraise for the search and recovery unit; well done Finbarr we all wish you the best of luck with the training. Dive conference in Limerick: last weekend saw the first proper national dive conference in Ireland since 2020 and it was great to see so many divers and search units from across the country again.

The event was held in Limerick and the local clubs did a superb job with a very well ran event and some excellent speakers including Jim Warny who famously was involved in the rescue of the schoolboy soccer team from the cave in Thailand, to Barry Mc Gill on deep wreck diving, to Mike Orth speaking on diving with Orca whales as well as Martin Kiely who showed some stunning underwater photographs and some breathtaking images of pods of basking sharks mating off the County Clare coastline last year.

The annual search and recovery conference was also held and thanks to Ken Barry and Maurice Carrol who were the club delegates for same. Over the course of the weekend a good number from the club attended including Mike Reidy, Ken Barry, Peter Cooling, Timmy Carey, Dick and Susan Vaughan, Mossy Carroll and Finbarr Murphy and all would like to thank Limerick and Atlantic divers for organizing an excellent dive show.
