Fermoy host youthful Azzurri side

-

Teams always welcome new opposition and on Thursday evening last under lights in The Showgrounds, Fermoy welcomed Italian side Amatori Union Rugby Milano to their home turf.

The trip was an exciting adventure for the teenage Italians who reside in a country where Association Football is the main sport of choice. Professionally turned out and fielding a very strong side, the Italians roared into an early lead. In the spirit of fair play more mature Fermoy players were introduced and this levelled the playing field so to speak. Both sides made light of the Baltic conditions to play an attractive brand of open rugby. Despite the language barrier, there was plenty of interaction and good humour following the contest. For their part, the Italians said they were delighted to be in Fermoy and they thanked their hosts for their warmth and hospitality.

BUSY TIMES FOR FERMOY

Fermoy’s two pitches are in constant use as they cater for a variety of teams. The club has no shortage of enthusiastic coaches and hopes are high that an influx of talented young players will boost the club’s adult teams in the years ahead. Like all clubs, they welcome new members, with all abilities catered for.
