Munster School XC Championships at Riverstick

-

On Friday, 4th March, our Grange athletes competed in the Munster school XC championships in Riverstick and they did their schools and club proud!

With its undulating course, the Cork County Board field at Riverstick is well known for being difficult, even though on the day the underfoot conditions were good enough.

The school grades are as follows: Minor, Junior, Intermediate and Senior

The Minor girls were the first to take to the track, covering a distance of 2 km. Rachel O’Flynn was the only Loreto Fermoy representative, and she came in 4th place following a thrilling sprint finish, involving three other competitors. Her fourth-place finish earned her a spot in the All-Ireland championships, which will be held in Belfast in less than two weeks. Congratulations Rachel.

In the 3k Intermediate girls race, Rachael Walsh who was representing Coláiste an Chraoibhín finished 13th and also qualified for Belfast! Congratulations Rachael! You ran very well.

St Colman’s College boys’ team who run with St Nicholas, Carrignavar and St Catherine’s were first in the 5k Intermediate race. Well done boys.

In the Senior 3k girls’ race Sarah O’Connor finished 44th representing Loreto. Her school team finished 6th overall. Well done Sarah!

The Senior boys race was the final race of the day, with 60 boys running 6 k. Cian Mc Girr, wearing the Coláiste a Chraoibhín singlet, came in 22nd place, while Kevin Clancy, fresh off an Achille injury and representing Rockwell College, came in 28th. Kevin’s team came in fifth place overall. Congratulations, lads.

Every best wish to Rachel O’Flynn and Rachael Walsh, who will participate in Belfast on March 12th. Good luck girls.
