Mitchelsto­wn opened their account in the opening round of the Cork Credit Unions Football League with a win over Castletown­bere on Sunday last at the Limerick Road venue. Both teams took some time to settle with the opponents’ 175km journey a big factor.

Mitchelsto­wn opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a well taken point, but it was Castletown­bere who began to dominate and led 0-6 to 0-2. Mitchelsto­wn edged their way back into the game courtesy of a Shane Beston goal with the same player being a bit unlucky a minute later to be denied by a great save. Both teams had periods of dominance, but two late goals ensured Mitchelsto­wn took the points. CAVANAGH’S OF FERMOY DIV 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Cavanagh’s of Fermoy Div 3 Football League game which was due to be played on Friday night last was deferred until Tuesday, March 8th. Match report next week.

LOTTO RESULTS

The draw took place in Walsh’s Yard Bar on Thursday last, March 3rd. There was no jackpot winner, numbers drawn 7, 14, 25 and 28. Note that due to St Patricks Day our next draw will take place on Saturday, March 19th at 6pm in Walsh’s Lounge Bar with a jackpot of €4,400. CLUB MEMBERSHIP 2022

With the season having commenced last weekend club membership for the coming year is now well overdue and is set at €50 for and adult and €30 for a student. It can be paid direct to any club officer, by EFT to IE38BOFI90­2944463399­82 giving name for membership or by logging on to mitchelsto­wngaa.com.

All fully paid-up members will then be put on a WhatsApp group which will give instant updates on all club activities for all age groups from adults down to the six-year-olds. A new life membership was introduced for 2022 at a cost of €1,000 which can be paid in full or two payments of €500 or by direct debit over ten or twenty months. TWO REBELS’ BOUNTY WINNERS

Firstly, a sincere thanks to all who supported us un the Cork GAA Rebels’ Bounty draw, we were flabbergas­ted with the support shown. The January and February draws took place on Tuesday, March 1st and Mitchelsto­wn once again were in the winners’ enclosure with Dave Harte winning €250 in the January draw followed by Noelle Flemming winning the same amount in the February draw. The March draw is due to take place on Thursday, March 31st and will be streamed live by Cork GAA.

VOTES OF SYMPATHY

The club extends its sincere sympathy to the O’Keeffe family on the passing of their mother Vera, also to the O’Neill family, Glanworth on the passing of Nelius, a staunch club man, former Avondhu board officer and teacher in St Fanahan’s VEC. May they rest in peace.
