U11 GIRLS Kilworth 3 Passage West 1

The Kilworth under 11 girls team played against Passage West on Saturday at 12 noon on a sunny afternoon.

From the kick-off Kilworth started positively and dominated play. The team combined nicely, all getting their heads up and passing accurately. Aoife Hutchinson controlled a great pass from Lily Kenneally in midfield and scored the opening goal of the match.

Passage West started attacking more in the second quarter of the match and Kilworth’s backs (Isobel O’Halloran, Aoife Collins, Eva McLoughlin and Siun Dingivan) defended solidly. They passed the ball out from defence and set up multiple attacks, one of which culminated in a goal scored by Roisin Murray-Condon.

In the second half Passage West made a large number of substitutions bringing on fresh legs. The Kilworth midfielders (Emily Reilly, Sarah Curran, Abbie Delea, Sarah Horgan and Sophie O’Halloran) were under pressure from the kick-off and had to sit back and defended tenaciously. Laura O’Leary made a number of great saves in the second half and her distribution from kick-outs was excellent. Eventually, Passage West scored a goal to bring the game back to 2-1 to Kilworth.

The Kilworth girls rallied in the last 10 minutes of the match. Siun was moved into an attacking position and latched on to a through ball and was unlucky not to score. Kilworth caught Passage West on the counter-attack and Emily Reilly scored the winning goal of the match.
