Good win again for seniors

-

Fermoy 4 Tramore Athletic 2

Excellent win again for the seniors. Having gone 1-0 down after 5 minutes Fermoy stepped up to try and get back into the game and had some good chances to draw level. Tramore were dangerous on the break and only 2 excellent saves by Gavin Dawson stopped them from increasing their lead.

The second half saw Fermoy dominate the game and goals in the opening 20 minutes from Sean Power, Kenneth Dawson, (penalty) and Dale Dawson saw them take control of the game. Tramore pulled a goal back late on but there was still time for Fermoy to add a fourth through Sean Desmond.

They will be hoping to keep the winning run going when they entertain second placed Wilton on Saturday next.

CORK YOUTH U18 MURPHY CUP Blarney United 4 Fermoy 2

Fermoy travelled to Premier league opposition this Friday night in the last 16 of the Murphy Cup. The home team pressed early on but our midfield and defence put in huge effort, showing great attitude fighting for every ball. On 25 minutes the home team took the lead reacting faster from a corner, Blarney doubled the lead minutes later with a great ball whipped across the box. Fermoy pushed the home team, creating a couple of chances and got their reward when Cillian Fitzgerald who was fastest to pounce from a corner just before half-time.

Second half started with Fermoy putting the pressure on the home team and had a few great chances to grab an equalizer but Fermoy were caught twice more from corners, not reacting to the second ball. Fermoy showed great determination and got a second goal from Rua Tobin Allen, an excellent team effort against a very good team and a special thanks to Calum Wheeler who stepped up to play in goal.

Fermoy U12A 2 Riverstown 1

Fermoy hosted Riverstown in Carrig Park on the 27th February 2022. The home side began very strongly with a number of chances coming from the forwards Jaylany de Costa and Ryan McAuliffe. The Riverstown goalkeeper was on top form on the day and denied Fermoy on a number of occasions. Fermoy conceded a penalty later on in the first half and our keeper David Morrisson kept the ball from the net. The defensive teamwork in the first half kept any Riverstown attack from succeeding. Cian Coughlan and Oisin Daly teamed up well to work the ball back down the field to the forward line. Max O’Connor and Lucas Alvez Barbosa had some great clearances up the line. Max Jasek showed some excellent skill and strength working up the centre of the field. The first half ended without a score.

Early in the second half Jaylany had two great shots on target that were brilliantly saved by the keeper. Fermoy kept pressing forward, with James O’Neill and Daniel Alberqurque showing some fancy footwork. Fermoy were rewarded with a goal when Sean O’Hagan sent a corner kick into the box and Jaylany finished by sending it past the keeper. Fermoy had another couple of chances, and kept a great work rate. Riverstown also had a number of good runs and tested the defence. Sean Gowan had a great defensive game putting in runs and challenges to keep the opponents from working the ball into the box. Connor Hill and Dallen O’Neill showed their determination in chasing down the ball and working through the passes with Redmond Crowley keeping a steady hold on the defence line. Riverstown won a free kick and made a good attempt, which was sent out for a corner kick. Our keeper David, cleared the corner down to Jaylany who ran through toward the Riverstown goal and stuck the ball in the net.

Riverstown kept up their efforts at attack and were rewarded with a goal to bring the game to 2-1. Both teams put in tremendous work and we had an exciting game up until the final whistle.

U11 GIRLS Ringmahon 1 Fermoy FC 0

A tough match in Mahon on Saturday with 16 girls all getting 25 minutes or more. Fermoy had the better of the chances in the first half but neither keepers had to make any saves. It was goalless at the break.

In the second half our girls fought hard as the home side were a tough team to break down. We had a few shots on target including a goal line clearance but it wasn’t our day for goals unfortunately. The winning goal for Ringmahon came with 5 minutes remaining, it was a long range effort with little the keeper could do to stop it. We pushed hard for an equalizer but it wasn’t to be today but very proud of the girls effort.
