Championship continues
The Munster U12-U19 Indoor Championships continued last weekend with three relay teams traveling to Nenagh Olympic Stadium. There have been many sessions focusing on baton passing within the passing zone over the winter months, to have our athletes relay ready.
The girls U12 were first up in heat 5 of 5. Ava Thornton, Rachel Moriarty, Sadbh McCarthy and Muireann Dingivan had their Nenagh debut and did their club proud. They didn’t progress past the heats but it was a tough field.
Next up was the boys U12 of Micheal Quirke, Jack O’Rourke, Ronan O’Driscoll and Charlie O’Brien. There were four heats in this age category and although the lads had a great race time, they didn’t make the final four. The final team of the day was the boys U13, who have had great success in the past in pre Covid times. There were three heats with David Towey Jnr, Sean Riordan, Micheal Quirke and Oran Hegarty in the last heat. They won their heat in a time of 2:01.73, the second fastest heat time behind Midleton AC with 1:59.85. In the final , they took 1.2 sec off their time to come in at 2:00.53, 1.52 sec behind Midleton, and securing a place in the All-Ireland Indoor Championships in Athlone.
Well done to all athletes for their dedication to training, and to parents and coaches for supporting them. Next up in Nenagh will be the U9-U11 athletes. Keep up the training!
