Well done Gavin

-

If the Brew Boys needed a bigger reason to get hyped for their game against 3rd place Daz Barbers, it came before kick off when Joe Casey awarded Brew Boys United’s star player Gavin Quirke the player of the month award. The entire team was delighted for Gavin who thoroughly deserved this award. Joe followed this up with another classy gesture as he donated to the Ukrainian appeal, organised by our keeper Finn of Moynihan Transport.

The battle of 2nd and 3rd began as a nervy affair with both sides coming close early on. Daz Barbers broke the deadlock from a corner after 5 minutes with a thumping shot that rustled the back of the net. There were chances at both ends throughout the half with Gavin Quirke unlucky not to level for the Brew Boys and in our defence debutant Kieran Hayes had a terrific display stopping any threat the opposition could muster.

The second half was much better for the Brew Boys as they pushed hard to get the equaliser. Matthew Quish’s introduction caused problems down the righthand side while Sean McCarthy bombarded the box from the left.

Mousie Quirke had another fine game, coming close from a free kick. Sean Hamelin had a massive impact from the bench and his desire to win led to him turning the Daz Barbers defence inside out and as he was about to lay the ball across the box he was taken down from behind. Penalty.

Tom McGrath handed the ball to Gavin Quirke and with massive pressure the striker remained unfazed, burying the ball into the bottom left-hand corner. 1-1 with 15 minutes to go. The Brew Boys dominated the last 15 with Quirke hitting the post and other chances going just outside the woodwork or being saved by the Daz keeper.

We couldn’t get the winner we craved and full credit to Daz Barbers who played very well throughout. A point was enough to see us ascend to the top of the table with 4 games to go. The goal is when those 4 games are complete, to be in that same spot.

Speedy recovery to Dan Turcan who got injured on Sunday and Man of the Match undoubtedly goes to Kieran Hayes, who was an absolute rock at the heart of the defence.
