Waterford impressive winners in Walsh Park

-

The sun shone brightly down on a fresh spring afternoon in Walsh Park last Sunday as Waterford took on Tipperary in the National Hurling League. The home crowd may have been slightly nervous ten minutes into the game, as Tipp sauntered into a six point lead scoring impressive long range points from play. Stephen Bennett steadied the ship with a well taken goal and Waterford slowly built momentum from there and seemed hungrier, stronger and faster especially when it was needed in the last quarter. Lismore’s Iarlaith Daly and Jack Prendergast contributed five points to add to Waterford’s tally.

The Déise finished in style by reeling off ten points in front of a packed and delighted attendance of 5,865 fans. The day belonged to Stephen Bennett as the man of the match landed 1-16 in total to finish a memorable day for him in the Waterford jersey. Liam Cahill will be the happier manager while Colm Bonnar will have much to think about ahead of the championship meeting of these two teams in six weeks’ time. Next up are old rivals Kilkenny on Sunday, 20th March in Nowlan Park at 1:45pm.
