Castlelyons community collection for Ukraine

- MARIAN ROCHE

Last Saturday saw the community of Castlelyons and its surrounds come together to support the people of Ukraine.

A collection was organised by Pat Collins of Hillside View and donations of sleeping bags, towels and blankets as well as essential food items and medical supplies, were received in large quantities at the Castlelyons Community Centre between 12 and 5pm.

A group of volunteers packed, boxed and labelled all the items and 8 pallets of aid were then transported by Pat’s nephew Anthony O’Connor of Road Trans, Little Island and stored at their warehouse that’s currently in use as a hub for donations.

Anthony, his brother Pádraig and friend Seán, will be making the journey to the Polish border with 3 lorries of supplies in the coming weeks and we wish them a safe and speedy journey.

To all who donated, helped or sent messages of support on Saturday, it was very much appreciated and our coordinator Pat Collins was overwhelmed by the huge response. Thanks again to all who made this possible and our thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people.
