It is with deep regret and sadness that we record the unexpected passing of Richard (Richie) Barry, Lacken, Affane, Cappoquin and formerly of Castlelands, Lismore, Co. Waterford on Friday, 4th March.
Loving son of the late Christina (Chrissie - nee Foley) and Joseph (Noel) Barry, Richie was loving partner of the late Tanya Heaphy. Lying in repose at Aidan Walsh and Sons Funeral Home, Cappoquin on Tuesday evening last week, funeral prayers were recited by Rev. Fr. Michael Cullinan P.P. in the presence of his loving family, before removal took place to St. John the Baptist Church, Affane. On arrival his remains were received and blessed by Fr. Cullinan.
The funeral Mass on Wednesday morning was celebrated by Fr Cullinan. Symbols representing Richie’s life were presented to the altar by his sister Mary Prendergast ( fridge magnet from Amsterdam), niece Rachel Prendergast (Waterford GAA jersey and Man United scarf), brothers
Michael (hard hat) and David (family photo). The significance of these items was narrated on by his brother, Anthony.
Readings during the Mass were recited by his niece, Emily Prendergast and nephew, Darragh Prendergast, while Prayers of the Faithful were read by his niece Michelle and nephew Craig Barry.
A lovely selection of music and hymns was provided by Dina Walshe throughout the Mass.
Following the funeral Mass, burial took place in St. Carthage’s Cemetery, Lismore. Rev. Fr. Cullinan P.P. officiated the graveside prayers, where Richie was laid to rest in the presence of his loving family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
