Council 'committed' to completing West Street footpath

- KATIE GLAVIN

It is hoped that footpath works in West Street, Tallow will continue in early June, according to Waterford City and County Council.

Works in Tallow carried out under Active Travel Funding were commended by local councillor John Pratt at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan Lismore District. However, confirmation was sought that works on West Street would be completed.

“People of Tallow were expecting that West Street would be done next and I just want to get assurances that those footpaths would be done in due course,” Cllr Pratt said.

Senior Engineer with Waterford City and County Council, Gabriel Hynes, confirmed that the council is ‘committed’ to completing the works in Tallow.

Mr Hynes noted that works in Dungarvan must first be carried out ahead of the busy tourist season and that contractors would then return to complete works at West Street.

“It’s a matter of balancing our resources and ensuring that the resources are spread evenly across the district. I can't give a complete timetable in relation to when they will be back, but I would expect in early June or before then,” Mr Hynes said.
