Local schools score with FAI competition

- MARIAN ROCHE

Two local schools are the recipients of 10 new footballs each as part of the SPAR FAI Primary School 5s Programme. Scoil Fhionáin in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick and Scoil na nÓg in Glanmire, Co. Cork will receive the sporting equipment after registering early for the programme.

Under the programme, schools are given guidance on running a 5-a-side tournament for 4th to 6th class students to get them interested in soccer. Schools will also be invited to submit a team of 8 players to get a chance to play in the Aviva Stadium.

Schools that registered early were entered into a draw, and the winning school of the national prize, All Saint’s National School, Doohamlet, Monaghan, won a Zoom call with manager of the Republic of Ireland men’s national team, Stephen Kenny.
