Kilworth Community Council AGM report

Kilworth Community Council AGM took place on Wednesday, February 16 at Heaphy Grove. The outgoing chairperso­n Maura Caplice, welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. In her report the chairperso­n reflected on the effect Covid-19 had on the community in 2021 and thanked all involved in the subcommitt­ees for their continued work throughout the year.

Despite the impact of Covid, Maura reported on a successful year for the Community Council on its many ongoing projects. Work continued on the proposed walking track, which when complete, will offer an amazing amenity to the people of Kilworth. The committee are also committed to a project in Glenseskin, and ongoing work continues in relation to the Village Arts Centre which is in need of specialise­d repairs. The Community Council has always been and will continue to be committed to the upkeep and appearance of the village.

Maura highlighte­d the 2021 Christmas lights display in the square which once again, was greatly admired and appreciate­d by all in the village and surroundin­g areas. The committee involved were thanked as well as those who contribute­d through sponsorshi­p and donations.

In April, Kilworth was chosen as the nomination for the Pride of Place award and we are looking forward to hearing the results which will be announced in May 2022.

Outdoor recreation and sporting facilities in the village were all happy to report an increase in membership­s and are looking forward to continued success in 2022. The Kilworth Astro Turf pitch opened for use in October of 2021 and is already proving a great success. This facility, adjacent to the national school, was a project inspired by a dedicated and hard-working school committee and it is fully supported by the community council. The Astro Turf adds a new facility to the sporting community in Kilworth and it is an amazing facility for the school children during the day.

The election of officers was presided over by vice president Michael Dunne and the following officers were elected: President Canon Donal Leahy; Vice Presidents - Michael Dunne, Michael Gowen and Jim McDonnell; Chairperso­n Noel O’Brien; Vice Chair Maura Caplice; Treasurer Liam Magnier; Assistant Treasurer Kieran Quinn; Secretary Louise Howard; Assistant secretary Pat O’Connor. Sports Complex representa­tives - Bill Hennessy, Dan Noonan, Seamus Nash, Sarah O’Brien and Kieran Quinn.

Newly elected chairperso­n Noel O’Brien spoke of the great community that we have in the village, the strengths of the Community Council and the positive contributi­on that it has made over many years. Noel thanked Maura Caplice for her commitment and dedication to the Community Council, he spoke of the great community we enjoy in Kilworth and reflected on the unity shown through the pandemic.

The Community Council acknowledg­es the hard work of past and present members and all those in the community that work tirelessly for the betterment of the village and its people. The new committee look forward to 2022 and encourage anyone interested in getting involved in projects, etc., to get in touch.
