St Carthage’s Cathedral works to begin in May

-

Caranzalem, a unique Spanish duo, are to take to St Carthage’s Cathedral in Lismore for a concert on Wednesday, March 23.

The concert has been organised by Vlad Smishkewych of Vox Nostra RTÉ Lyric FM and Julia Keane of Verso Art, who have been raising funds to refurbish the iconic West Waterford cathedral.

Last year, Verso Art raised €75,000 towards the renovation of St Carthage’s Cathedral, with the intention to make it a special space for music and the arts. Improvements at the cathedral are planned to start in May this year.

Concert organisers have said that they are ‘excited’ to open the new season in the cathedral with this concert.

Taking to the Lismore stage at 7pm on March 23, Caranzalem will open with their programme entitled ‘ Caja de Música’. Pilar Amalé on viola de gamba and Elena Escartín on recorder will continue their musical travels as resident artists in 2022 with the Limerick Early Music Festival.

Profits from the concert will go towards St Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore. There will also be a collection on the night for medical supplies for those affected by conflict in Ukraine. Tea and coffee will also be available afterwards.

Tickets for the concert are available from Betty Daunt of Lismore Cathedral CLG at (086) 8153793.
