CORRIN MART REPORT
We had an increase in numbers again this week at Corrin Mart. This is expected at this time of year and we would expect the same over the next number of weeks. Hopefully some soft, spring-like weather will accompany this increase in numbers which will bring out plenty of extra buyers!
This week there was quite a difference in trade with a super demand for forward 2-year-old cattle, very lively trade for quality AA and Hereford stores but the increase in numbers of Friesians stores meant that trade was tougher for light Friesians.
COWS
Great demand for all dry cows. Store cows: 400kgs to 550kgs making from €1.30 per kilo to €1.94 per kilo.
Heavier cows: 550kgs+ making from €1.68 per kilo up to €2.20 per kilo.
Limousin 700kgs €1,490; Friesians 715kgs €1,380; Friesians 660kgs €1,250.
BULLOCKS
Much larger numbers, as mentioned already, super trade except for light Friesians.
Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.40 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €2.95 for Continental bullocks. With AA/ Hereford types making from €2.15 per kilo up to €2.76 per kilo.
Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs starting at €1.60 for Friesians up to €2.80 per kilo for Continentals. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.20 up to €2.58 per kilo.
Fwd. stores: 500kgs to 600kgs. The plainer Friesians started at €1.90 per kilo up to €2.70 per kilo.
Heavy bullocks: 600kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.05 up to €2.82 per kilo.
Continental 260kgs €760; Limousin 635kgs €1,790; AA 326kgs €900; AA 577kgs €1,540.
HEIFERS
Good strong trade for heifers this week.
Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €2.05 up to €2.70 per kilo. AA/ Hereford averaged at €2.25 per kilo.
Butchers heifers: 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.15 up to €2.73 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging at €2.35 per kilo.
AA 510kgs €1,390; Limousin 527kgs €1,380; AA 485kgs €1,210; Charolais 393kgs €1,050.
CALVES
The calf sales in Corrin Mart now take place on Wednesdays. There are very large numbers each Wednesday, good demand for strong calves but tougher trade for shipping calves.
