Junior Enterprise Programme at Bishop O’Brien NS
The 5th and 6th Class children in Bishop O’Brien National School, Bartlemy, have been taking part in the Junior Enterprise Programme again this year. This programme is supported by Enterprise Ireland and enables primary school children to experience practical real-life problem solving with all aspects of the programme blended into the curriculum.
Under their teacher’s guidance, the children have been discovering new strengths as individuals and as part of a team. The children started their junior entrepreneur journey before Christmas and they presented five business proposals to a panel of ‘Dragons’. The winning idea was ‘Da Beez Neez Lip Balm which made use of a local, natural beeswax from one of our student’s hives. At this stage the class divided into teams including finance, design and sales, marketing, communication and production. The students’ work culminated in a fabulous showcase day last Friday and we were delighted to welcome the parents from our school community, along with the other children in the school to view the event. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who have helped and supported the children in this project.
Their chosen charity for half of their profits from the sale of the lip balm is Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital.
