The Avondhu

MTU 5km road race

-

This 5km road race was held on Sunday, March 6th, it commenced at what used to be the CIT track. It was a very well supported race, with 356 runners from various Cork businesses lining up for a very nice course, in great weather.

The first man over the line was John Meade from the Department of Education, finishing in a great time of 16.05, and the first lady home was Jessica Coyne in 17.16. Although Avondhu Motor Factors had a good number of athletes running, unfortunately on this occasion there were no prizes for our teams! Nevertheless, well done to our runners who all posted great times: Johnny Delaney, Keith Buckley, Mike Pratt, Des White, Tony Dunne, Angela O’Mahony, Judi Baker and Maggie Dunne. There’s always the next race! This was another race where we all collected a beanie hat just for entering! You can never have enough beanie hats now, can you?

The next race under BHAA rules will be the PWC 5km at the Marina, on 13th April at 7.30. A lot of us are very disappointed to hear that the Cork to Cobh 15 mile race will not go ahead this year, due to the new road layouts at Dunkettle. Anyway, thanks as usual to the BHAA who organise the races and to the many companies who sponsor.
