JUNIOR A HURLING LEAGUE White’s Cross 0-07 Nemo Rangers 2-16

Our junior hurling team got their league campaign underway on Sunday last in Trabeg. This was the only game of the weekend to get the green light to go ahead following the cancellation of U13 and U17 football matches due to the weather and lack of available pitches.

The weather fluctuated for the duration of this game with sunshine coupled with heavy downpours which meant the surface was far from ideal for hurling. Despite the wear and tear to their main playing pitch as a consequence of letting the game to go ahead, Nemo will be delighted that the game proceeded as they recorded a big victory.

They did not have it all their own way in the opening exchanges. Nemo did open the scoring with a point from play before Conor Buckley equalised from a free. Nemo again took the lead but White’s Cross responded with two fine points from play from Conor Buckley and a long distance Aidan O’Neill effort which put White’s Cross ahead for the only time in the game after 6 minutes.

The home side dominated for most of the game and found their scores easier to come by. White’s Cross battled hard throughout and the likes of Senan Ryan and Chris Dunne played well on their debuts. However, despite their efforts White’s Cross only managed one score between the 6th and 55th minutes of the game- that a Conor Buckley free. In the last 5 minutes though they added three further points to add some respectability. Conor Buckley added two further scores from placed balls before Donncha Murnane got a point from play with the very last puck of the ball.

Team - Shane Cahill, Senan Ryan, Ronan Quain, Richie Sherlock, Seamus Quinlan, Kevin Buckley, Aidan O’Neill, Donncha Murnane (0-01), Gearoid Flemming, Cormac Dervan, Conor Buckley (0-05; 0-04 frees), Ross Murphy, Chris Dunne, Seamus Reid, Sam Gallagher. Subs Conor Docherty.

DADS AND LADS/ MOTHERS AND OTHERS

With the bar set very high by the Dads and Lads in their first session last Wednesday week, all eyes were on the Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others on Sunday night in White’s Cross.

The Gaelic for Mothers and Others proved a rip-roaring success with a great turn-out and a right, good hour of football. Despite the fact that this was the first time many of these ladies kicked a ball in earnest, they proved themselves to be fast learners - a mighty hour of fun and games.

Fear not however, it’s not too late to join an súgradh agus an craic, be it the Dads and Lads or the Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others that interests you. Remember you need have no experience whatsoever of playing Gaelic football to join in - it’s all only a bit of fun. A chance to get out, get a few steps in, enjoy a bit of company. The Dads and Lads are back on duty in White’s Cross astroturf on Wednesday at 8pm. Contact Anthony on 0876991482 for further details.
