Fantastic achievement

-

Congratulations to our juvenile athletes who participated in the All-Ireland schools cross country championships, held at the weekend in Mallusk, outside Belfast.

One of the local schools, St Colman’s, Fermoy, finished a mighty third to claim bronze medals in the intermediate age category. A superb achievement!

The team, including, two club members from St Catherines, Senan O’Reilly and Conor Hayes, ran really well all through the spring, to ensure qualification for the All-Irelands. The team easily won the Munster Championships and were feeling strong on the big day. Unfortunately, Conor had to miss the day out in Belfast due to illness. However, the team of the Verling brothers from our neighbours St Nicholas AC, and Aidan Maher from Carrignavar, along with Senan, performed very well in testing conditions on a challenging course.

Charlotte Norman had also qualified for the All-Irelands in the minor age category, after finishing 7th in the Munsters. Charlotte was representing Blackwater Secondary School from Lismore. Charlotte was brave yet again, taking it out with the leaders and she was rewarded for her efforts, finishing 8th overall. A really superb performance from one of our top athletes.
