WEATHER WINS
Last weekend’s scheduled Cavanagh’s of Fermoy Division 2 Hurling League game v Ballyhea fell victim to the weather. The fixture was given every chance, however, the deluge that fell on Saturday afternoon made it impossible for the match to go ahead. It will now need to be re-fixed.
MEETING WITH DEEL ROVERS (MILFORD)
Our junior B footballers are pencilled in to face Deel Rovers (Milford) on Sunday next, 20th March, in Araglin at 3pm.
At the time of writing, the forecast isn’t too bad. Denis Twomey and his selectors will be looking to return to winning ways in the league following a disappointing opening round defeat to Abbey Rovers (Castletownroche).
CUPS VISIT ARAGLIN N.S.
Silverware won by the club last year visited Araglin National School last Friday. A delegation, headed by club chairman, Tom Kenneally, received a great welcome from principal, Corina Ahern and her colleagues.
EVENTS DEAR BOY
There are a number of high profile events on the horizon, the first of which is a fashion show on Friday night, 25th March, where organisers will be hoping to raise substantial funding for Fermoy Sub Aqua Club (Fermoy Search & Rescue Unit).
The expectation is that Araglin Hall will be full for this first ‘big event’ following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
FOLLOWERS OF TWO WHEELS
A sponsored cycle takes place in Araglin on Sunday, 27th March. Casual and serious cyclists will be catered for in an event that’s being organised by Araglin National School Parents’ Association.
CLIMBING (WALKING) WITH CHARLIE
Araglin is one of numerous communities across Ireland taking part in the ‘ Climb With Charlie’ initiative. In our case, we will be ‘walking’, with the public having a short and long walking route to choose from - this takes place on Saturday, 2nd April. Again, all monies raised are going to charity (Motor Neurone Association & Pieta House). Walks, which start and finish at Araglin Hall, will commence at 11am, with refreshments being served. Former RTE broadcaster, Charlie Bird, has been diagnosed with this debilitating condition. The other charity, Pieta House, works with those affected by suicide, which again, is something that has touched every village and town in Ireland.
BINGO’S BACK ON SUNDAY
Jackpot seekers will be in Araglin next Sunday at 2.30pm in an attempt to win the Araglin bingo jackpot of €4,000. Having been suspended for the duration of Covid, this ‘lovely pot’ is back and waiting to be won on 48 calls or less on the jackpot sheet. The ‘indoor/outdoor’ bingo format remains in place.
GREAT REPORTS ABOUT ADRIAN RYAN
Dancers were out in force for last Saturday night’s social dancing in Araglin. A large crowd were wonderfully entertained by Adrian Ryan, who ensured the dance floor was full from 9pm till midnight. Dancers are reminded to keep an eye out for forthcoming dances in Araglin Hall.

SEAN AND BEN ON AVONDHU DUTY
In a healthy sign for the club, two of our players are in the shake up for a place on the Avondhu senior hurling panel - Sean Hegarty (Barnahown) and Ben Carey (Ballard). The panel is currently being finalised with a number of challenge matches taking place. This kind of exposure should benefit both men.
LOCAL FUNDING
Well done to Araglin Community Council and Araglin Pony Club on receiving funding from Cork County Council.
