Following on from an impressive 3-9 to 0-7-point win over Kilworth, our U17 team headed to Banteer to take on Duarigle Gaels in the second round of the Division 1 Football League. Duarigle started strongly and scored the first point of the game with a fine team move.

Mitchelstown responded immediately with points from Conor Walsh, Kevin Cotter, Cian English and some great counter attacking football resulted in the first goal of the game that was slotted away by Eoin Flynn.

At this point Town were dominating and Duarigle were finding it hard to breach a very tight defence with some great tackling and blocking on show from Eoin Geary, Eoin Brennock and Simon Whelan in the fullback line.

The halfback line of Sean Barry, Oisin Hanrahan and Luke Keane were causing Duarigle Gaels all sorts of problems on the counter and further scores came from Daniel Whelan and a superbly finished goal by James Keane.

Town continued to pile on the pressure and were dominating the middle of the field with Caoimhin O’Gorman and Cathal Walsh supplying quick ball into the forward line resulting in further scores from Eoin Flynn, Kevin Cotter and James Keane with his second goal. Daniel Whelan tagged on another and Luke Keane scored a beautiful point following another superbly worked counterattack.

Duarigle had goal chances and following a few great saves from Callum Burke they did slot one but Town regrouped and continued to pile on the pressure.

Tristan Nolan and Fionn Hanrahan came on in the second half an both made a significant contribution to both defence and attack with Conor Walsh adding a further 2 points. Eoin Flynn’s movement was causing problems for the Duarigle fullback line all night, and brilliant link up play with Kevin Cotter resulted in the score of the game with Eoin slotting from 40 yards. Final score Mitchelstown 6-20 to Duarigle Gaels 1-8.

A very strong team display and the hard work in training, is paying dividends. Massive thanks to all the parents and supporters that travelled to Banteer, next outing is scheduled for Saturday, March 26th against Buttevant.
