Kilworth take the points in a top of the table tussle

-

U13 BOYS Kilworth Celtic 3 Brideview Utd 1

The league’s top two teams met today and put the only remaining unbeaten records on the line, in perfect conditions at Sheila Flynn Park. Kilworth started very strongly and went 2-0 up through goals from Danyl Pierce and Ryan Pierce but Brideview found their rhythm and created chances and were rewarded with a goal just before half-time.

The second half started very evenly with chances for both sides, with the next goal crucial to the outcome of the game. That goal came for Kilworth after a good passing move from midfield which finished with a well taken goal from Luke Browne.

Kilworth were able to see out the game to finish 3-1 but had to thank strong performances from the keepers Darragh Collins and Jack Cotter along with a solid defensive performance, to restrict the Brideview attack. Another entertaining, closely fought match between these two sides.

Perfect conditions for football at Sheila Flynn Park, unfortunately the result didn’t go our way. Thanks for coming to us Watergrasshill United. U12S

Kilworth Celtic 4 Clashmore Ramblers 1

An excellent comeback in the second half saw our boys overcome a very good Clashmore side. Despite playing very well in the first half Kilworth found themselves 1-0 down at half-time.

A headed goal from Cian Dillon got Kilworth back in the game before Darragh Crowley added a second from a breaking ball from a corner. Tadgh Ahern then added a third, finishing strongly into the net and Darragh Crowley wrapped up the scoring with an excellent free from close to the touchline.

In addition to great performances from the goal scorers, JJ Cahill was his usual assured self in goal, while Caleb Clancy, Culann Russell and Finn Murray were excellent in defence. Further, forward Mikey Hurley, Jason Dunleavy, Rian Terzi and Conor O’Connell put in strong performances. Overall, an excellent morning as we ran out 4-1 winners.

U9 BOYS VS VALLEY RANGERS Kanturk AFC 2 KCFC Seniors 2

The seniors travelled to Kanturk on Sunday to face the team that replaced them in 2nd just recently. Celtic had a point to prove. To beat Kanturk would give Kilworth confidence in their drive for promotion.

Kilworth started well with some early chances from an in form Ciarán Gowen. Meanwhile at the other end Tommo Twomey was kept quiet with Bob, Jason, Jamie and Ryan playing really well at the back. This allowed the midfield and forwards to create an attack. Kevin Dolan and Eoghan Cody were getting on a lot of ball while Deano and Taran caused major headaches for the Kanturk defence.

James Coughlan making a well-deserved start was excellent on the ball, great feet and passing proving a real nightmare at times. Cody and Coughlan were involved in the build-up when Dean made a cut in from the right wing and was taken down just on the edge of the 18 yard box. Mouthwatering territory for the man himself. Deano hit a Beckhamesque free so sweetly over the wall into the top left corner to put Celtic a goal to the good. 0-1.

Kanturk were tough and played well with a dangerous forward line and wingers but Ryano and co were playing blinders at the back. The first half ended as planned and Celtic were by far the better team. Seanie Shan was introduced 15 minutes into the second half and was looking lively for a bit, however an injury forced him back to the line.

Joe Aherne entered after a few months out and saw a left footer blocked with a Kanturk hand on the edge of the D. Dolan came to negotiate with Deano about the free and after a little bit of whispering, back-rolled the ball for Deano to slot with his left to the bottom corner. Sent all the Kanturk lads to Ballydesmond.

A beautiful free kick it must be said. 0-2 Celtic and firmly in control.

0-2 away isn’t that much though and Kanturk kept on pushing. Condon and Allen taking some serious punishment but absorbing it all at the back. Tommo in command and Celtic looked like they had it under control. Kanturk wanted one back though and were relentless in its pursuit. A quick corner caught Celtic off guard and before we knew it, they had one back. 1-2. Celtic were at 95” and were willing the final whistle.

98” mins and still no sign of full time. A free conceded around 35 yards from goal gave Kanturk a chance to equalise. To Celtic’s horror, they scrambled one in after a ping pong in the box. The final whistle went and Celtic were completely downtrodden by such an ending.

Best for Kilworth were Ryan Jordan, James Coughlan and Kevin Dolan, with Man of the Match going to Dean Jordan after his double.
