Third time lucky for drive-in?

-

ST PATRICK’S DAY

Hopefully it will be third time lucky for our four principal officers who again had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Drive-in planned for last Sunday, it has now been rescheduled for Sunday, 27th March. Difficult as the decision was, it was the right one to make as the course closure which began on Tuesday 7th was extended into the weekend when the Met Eireann forecast showed more heavy rain on the way.

Once again all of us both members and staff send President John, Captains Siobhan, Gerry and Ben our best wishes and we will keep our fingers crossed that the weather will improve significantly and they can demonstrate their fine golfing skills on 27th March.

ANNETTE TWOMEY WINS VOUCHER COMPETITION 6TH/7TH MARCH

There was a very good turnout for our fifteen hole competition played Sunday/Monday 6th/7th March. The Sunday players had the better day for golf, as it was a benign day, sunny for the most part with very little wind until the latter part of the afternoon. The Monday ladies on the other hand had extremely wintry conditions to contend with as the temperatures had dropped significantly overnight, one player described them as “Baltic.”

Nevertheless no matter what the elements bring some players will conquer them and return some very good scores and this week that included three members of the Ladies Committee. Playing on Monday “Get into Golf Co-Ordinator Annette Twomey (23) produced an excellent score of 35 points to secure first place. In second was Pauline Morrison (13) who returned a fine 33 points off her handicap nudging Vice Captain Nuala O’Sullivan (24) into third on 32 points. Fourth position went to Linda O’Donnell (36) 31 points B/6 and in fifth was committee member Eileen O’Neill (16) also on 31 points. Well done to all the

prize-winners. WEEKLY COMPETITION

Our competition this week was played on Monday 14th only as the course was closed on Sunday. The results will be published later.

MELLERICK’S PHARMACY SPRING LEAGUE

Last week was the third week of the league and the first round played over fifteen holes, as the course and clubhouse were closed over the weekend the results were not available when article was going to press. They will be included in next week’s report in The Avondhu.

GOLF IRELAND INTERCLUB MATCHES

The sign-up sheets for teams have been posted on the notice board in the ladies locker room, if you are interested in playing put your name on the list. This will help team managers in getting panels together. We are also allowed caddies this year.

THURSDAY LADIES

As a result of the severe weather for the preceding few days we did not have our scramble on Thursday last. Whatever glimmer of hope we may have had earlier in the week regarding the re-opening of the course was diminished by the heavy rain and sleet showers which hit all over Munster on Wednesday. This was then followed by a severe frost on Wednesday night through to the early hours of Thursday. Hopefully, things will improve weatherwise and we will be able to resume our very popular Thursday morning scramble from next week.
