All-Ireland Schools’ XC

-

The All-Ireland School XC took place in County Antrim on Sunday, March 13th, in near perfect weather. Having both qualified from the Munster championships two weeks prior in Riverstick, Rachael Walsh and Rachel O’Flynn made the long journey to Mallusk, which is near Belfast.

At 12 o’clock Rachel O’Flynn representing Loreto Fermoy was first in the Minor 2k race, which had a large field of 80 girls. The course was pretty flat and Rachel stayed as close to the leaders as possible. She was the third Munster athlete to cross the finish line in 14th place and was only 4 seconds away from a top ten finish. Rachel, you did a fantastic job, powerful running!

Rachael Walsh was competing slightly later, as she was running in the Intermediate race which was 3.5k long. Rachael was representing Coláiste an Chraoibhín and finished in 46th position. Another great race from Rachael! Well done.

Congratulations to our two Rachels’ for their outstanding performance in all XC races this season. We are very proud of you both.

Also, congratulations to St Colman’s College on their bronze medal performance as a team. They had 5 competitors running with St Catherine’s, St Nicholas, and Carrignavar. Well done on such a fantastic outcome!
