Weather puts a stop to outdoor works

-

The wet and windy weather of the past week meant that it was not possible for the Lismore Tidy Towns work team and CE worker to carry out any outdoor work. Hopefully the coming week will see an improvement weather wise.

The community litter roster which was due to start on 14th March will now start on Monday 21st March. As the St. Patrick’s Day bank holiday break is a long one this year people who have a litter pick are asked to watch out for any litter in their area and please pick it up. Dog fouling on footpaths is rearing its ugly head again, so many initiatives have been carried out which work for a while and things then revert back again, a difficult one not alone for Lismore but many other towns and villages.

Lismore Tidy Towns held its first AGM since 2019 on Monday, 7th March. It was great to have everyone back together indoors at the St. Vincent De Paul rooms for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Acting Chairperson Nora O’Connor welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked all those members who kept up the tidy towns effort over the past few years within the pandemic regulations, Nora expressed her thanks for all the help given by the following since March 2020, Waterford City and County Council especially Lismore area engineer Josephine McGrath, GSS John Foley, Lismore outdoor staff, Waterford City and County Council volunteers on the Community Litter Roster, Lismore Community Development Ltd., CE worker Jim Noonan, Environment section Waterford City and County Council, Lismore Town businesses, Men’s Shed Lismore, grant agencies, Department Rural and Community Dev., Tidy Towns national sponsor SuperValu, Economic section Waterford City and Co County, Blackwater Community School and other non-committee members who help out when asked.
