Railway Gardens development may be back on the cards

- KATIE GLAVIN

Development at Railway Gardens in Lismore may be about to start again, as it was suggested at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan Lismore council that a new construction company may have moved on site.

Speaking at the meeting last Monday week, Tallow Councillor John Pratt stated that he is ‘led to believe’ a new construction company may be involved with the site.

In July last year, councillors were informed by Waterford City and County Council that the proposed development of 17 houses in the heritage town was ‘ in jeopardy’. At the time, the council stated that the development had not progressed as hoped, with the developer informe-ing the council that he was not in a position to proceed with the project.

Cllr Pratt asked council officials last week whether it is intended to build the new houses at Railway Gardens, as proposed by the previous developer.

Waterford City and County Council Director of Housing, Ivan Grimes said during the meeting that he was not aware of a proposed new developer at Railway Gardens, Lismore, however stated that this does not mean there isn’t one.

“If there is a new developer, we will be looking for our Part V allocation on that,” Mr Grimes added.

A Part V requirement applies to sites of 10 or more homes on land zoned for residential development and permits the local authority to purchase up to 10% of the homes in a development.

It was later confirmed that a private developer has taken over the site, meaning that the council would not be involved with the development outside of a possible Part V requirement.
