Knocklong takeaway closed for ‘extensive rodent activity’
Two food outlets in Knocklong, Co. Limerick, have been issued with closure orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI). On February 24th, The Magnet at the cross in the village was ordered to close owing to a ‘grave and immediate danger to public health’.
While earlier this month, the nearby OPTP takeaway was also ordered to close.
The FSAI report on The Magnet on February 28th noted ‘ extensive rodent activity’ in the rear store, reception, and first floor vacant area and that the animals had access to the food and food preparation areas. There was also a ‘substantial accumulation of grease, dirt, and food particles’ on surface finishes.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) reported that eight Closure Orders were served on food businesses during the month of February for breaches of food safety legislation.
The closure report on the OPTP takeaway is not yet available from the FSAI, but are generally posted within one month of the closure order.
