Fermoy flood report due by end of March

- KATIE GLAVIN

A report on the flood incident which occurred over a year ago at Brian Boru Square in Fermoy is ‘imminent’ according to Cork County Council officials.

Seeking an update at this week’s Northern Committee meeting, Cllr William O’Leary requested confirmation that the report would be completed by the end of March, noting that the ‘wheels of bureaucracy can move slowly’.

Cllr O’Leary also requested that the findings of the report would be actioned on, and made effective, immediately.

“Can we action this effective immediately and bring this to a conclusion once and for all,” Cllr O’Leary asked, adding that it occurred in February 2021 ‘ and progress is what we need here’.

County Engineer and Director of Water Services with Cork County Council Kevin Morey, confirmed that the report would be complete by the end of March and stated that it is currently at the stage where the council are finalising it together with the OPW.

He added that the report is ‘imminent’ and that the council’s first aim would be to brief elected members on the said report.
