Scoil Pól expansion advances to next stage

- MARIAN ROCHE

Scoil Pól in Kilfinane have posted their request for tenders to complete their new one-storey extension to the secondary school. The new extension will comprise of a Science lab, Music room, extra classrooms, along with a dedicated Design and Communications Graphics room. It will also house a library, Arts room, offices and an IT room.

Contractors have until April 13th to submit their tenders.

This year, the school has circa 650 students, up from just 180 pupils in 2011. To accommodate the extra students and varied curriculum, the secondary school is also in the process of fundraising for a planned new activities hall, proposed to be built not from bricks and mortar, but a heavy-duty ‘tent’, that means cheaper constructions costs and quicker installation.

Minister Niall Collins welcomed the announcement recently that the school had received the go-ahead to go to tender at the end of February.

“It’s a significant investment, and the extension will be a welcome addition to the Scoil Pól school community.”
