Busy time for Post 25

-

It has been a busy few week for Post 25. On 4th March we were asked to help out Noreen Cody, Noreen is the daughter of Pat Cody, member of Post 25, who is also coordinator for the Ukraine Appeal. She had put out an appeal for items that could be sent to Ukraine, the response was fantastic and she allowed her house to become a drop off point. FTS Logistics were on board at that stage and supplied 3 Transits vans to transport the boxes up to Circle K, where they would be loaded on to a truck and the next part of the journey. We helped out in the loading of first the vans at Noreen’s house, then at Circle K, loading the truck. It was a pleasure to help Noreen and her group, Well done Noreen and all involved.

On 6th March, Fermoy Concert Band, organised an event at the Square Fermoy This event involved the raising of the Ukraine flag and we were again asked to help out. John Whealy and Jim McCormick raised the Ukraine Flag. The band then played the Ukraine national anthem and followed by our own national anthem. It was a simple but very emotional ceremony, and again we were glad to help out.

On the 17th March St Patrick’s Day. we took part in the parade; this was the first parade since 2019 and was very well attended. We had over 20 members on Parade, a great turn out. The atmosphere on the day was fantastic plus it stayed dry. We also had a guest on parade with us. He was Adrian Murphy, cousin of post member Michael Murphy, who played some delightful tunes on his pipes. He is ex-Army as well and was made very welcome. A little bit of info about the parade, it was the 37th parade in Fermoy, Well done to organising committee. There were over 50 organisations involved in the parade and 1,200 people took part. The route was lined with people who had came to see the parade as well. When the parade was finished, we headed to our base, where the customary photo was taken, followed by a lovely and welcome cup of tea and breakfast. It was also great to have our families there as well, from babies to sons, daughters, brothers, sisters grandparents and wives/ partners as well. It was truly a fantastic day.

There is a change this year in the holding of Cavalary Day. It has been normal and tradition to hold it on the first week end of September. This year it is being held on Wednesday, 14th September. The reason behind this is that the Cavalary Corps, was formed that day 100 years ago. And they intend to mark it accordingly our chairman Tom has been at one meeting with the organising group and what came from that meeting, is there are producing a booklet on the day. They have asked to provide a history of the Post, an update photo of members, that is why we took the St Patrick’s Day photo, it will be the one we will send, a picture of Post Flag, all to be included in the booklet. That is all the info we have on that at the moment, Tom will continue with attending the meetings, and more info will follow.

The next Post meeting is 31st March. Time etc, will follow by txt.
