Further development at Coláiste Fionnchua
The school community of Coláiste Fionnchua, Mitchelstown, received some m u c h - we l co m e d news recently that the Department of Education has ring fenced €500,000 for a complete replacement of the main roof to the school. This comes less than three months after the Department of Education also announced €4,000,000 had been allocated for a major expansion of the campus.
Speaking on the news, Principal Edward Cronin said: “This is another positive step forward in the development of the school and one of a number of projects that will see the building and grounds transformed in the coming years. We would like to thank our patrons the Cork ETB for all their work to date on this project.”
ALL-IRELAND LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT DRAMA FESTIVAL
Having once again qualified for the All-Ireland final of the Light Entertainment Drama competition, last Friday week saw our TY students take to the stage in the Palace Theatre, Fermoy. Competing against schools from counties Cork, Tipperary, Westmeath and Mayo, our students performed ‘Roy & Julie’, a modern take on the Shakespeare classic ‘Romeo & Juliet’. Torn apart by loyalties to their respective county, Cork man Roy (Jack Almeida) and Limerick woman Julie (Mackenzie Hickey) must battle society and their flag in order to be together.
Ably accompanied by their fellow TY students, our students performed a variety of cover songs to help tell their ill-fated love story.
When the dust settled, Coláiste Fionnchua once again took some silverware. Jack Almedia brought home the Adjudicators Best Individual Performance, ‘Roy & Julie’ took home the prize for Best Comedy, and we also won 2nd place overall.
Ms McCaffery was thrilled with the success of the students, saying: “Once again, they did us so proud on the day. They left nothing on the stage and absolutely gave us 110%. It’s great to see the tradition of the performing arts at Coláiste Fionnchua.”
Well done to all of our TY students who have once again done their school proud. Congratulations also to Ms McCafferty, Ms Dillon and Ms Foley who have been working tirelessly with these students over the past few months.
